The Royal Oak Boules Club

Le Royal Oak Boules Club is based at the Pub of that name at Alveley, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire. It has been a member of the Severn Valley Petanque League (SVPL) for many years, with a team participating in its summer league and knock-out competitions where matches normally take place on Tuesday evenings. From the 2008 season which starts later in April, the Club will have two teams in the SVPL. Le Royal Oak Team will play in the First Division of the League, and the newly formed Oaks Team will perform in the Second Division.

There is currently a small membership of 20 players with ten in each team. While the majority of players live in Alveley, others, who are most welcome, come from elsewhere.

The Club and First Division Team Captain is currently David Voysey, and Robin Worton is the Captain of the Oaks. Tony Voysey is the Club Treasurer and Adrian Voysey looks after publicity. From 13th March there will be Club Sessions at the Royal Oak, Alveley, from 8.00 pm, which will be held every second Thursday in the month during the league season.

Twenty-three Members and Guests attended the Club’s Annual Dinner on Saturday 23rd February, 2008, at the Royal Oak, Alveley. The high quality fare flavoured a most enjoyable social evening. The Club will be entering two teams in the Alveley Village Quiz which takes place on Saturday 5th April at Alveley Village Hall. The prize for the winning the competition is to organise the next years quiz which our Club has “fallen for” twice in the past!

Anyone who may be interested in joining the Club should get in touch with  David Voysey on 01746-780356.
